ZÁRATE FOREST, A GOOD PLACE TO TREKKING IN LIMA

The Zárate Forest Reserve Area, located in the district of San Bartolome de Huarochirí province, has over 500 hectares, rich biodiversity of animal and flora comprising, without a doubt, one recommended places to hike in the region Lima.

According to information from the website of the National Service of Protected Natural Areas by the State (SERNANP), in 2010 this ecosystem was declared a National Protected Area under Ministerial Resolution 195-2010-MINAM and published in the official gazette El Peruano.

The goal is the preservation of the dry cloud forests, to promote scientific study and educational or recreational activities that benefit the surrounding towns.

Its altitude ranging from 1,850 meters to 3,600 meters, allowing you to have diversity of microclimates that favor life. Its vast green areas are fed by the Seco River, which is one side of the Rimac River.

The route can also see archaeological remains, such as footprints made by a pre-Columbian civilization that once influenced the balance of the forest, besides farming terraces and complicated irrigation canals. Definitely a place with great potential for ecotourism.

Recommendations for this forest

First, be physically fit as the walk can take up to 5 hours of climbing the mountain is green between April and June. Obviously consider descent to be 5 hours of walking, so it's best to go physically ready. Anyway the reward of seeing so much natural wonder will be worth the effort.

Go on tour groups with trained guide who knows the area. Never go alone. To walk can lead to trekking staff, backpack with water and non-perishable foods.

Finally, when you reach the district of San Bartolomé (an hour of Chosica), you have to walk within 60 minutes to the Interpretation Centre of the community of San Bartolomé, where it overnight and so the next day start promotion.
